In a personal flashback to a some very old vector symbols, I sat down to recreate the alien structures symbols from the original Dark Fantasy symbol set, this time for the Hand-drawn Fantasy style. Do you need settlements for a hive-like insectoid species? Or something weirder even? The Alien Structures give you all the options to place them on the map!

From lofty elven towers we turn our attention to the humble, earthy dwellings of the halfling people. Burrowing into the hillsides their bucolic settlements are neither fortified nor exceedingly well hidden, probably because they were originally protected by the strongholds of an ancient empire. This empire now lies in ruins and we must hope its descendants still watch over the halfings villages in secret.

As Mike Schley is busy working on another project we can’t quite talk about yet, we are pivoting the free monthly symbols from the Dungeons of Schley style to the Hand-drawn Fantasy style introduced with the Cartographer’s Annual 2025. This month we add elven stuctures to the style, from large cities to towers, hidden strongholds and holy sites.

Who dug that grave and why did they leave the monstrous skeleton they chucked in there unburied? What disturbed their work? 20 new symbols let you populate a graveyard with gothic tombstones, pedestals and statues, as well as opened graves and their accompaning tools and dirt piles.

Mike Schley created a new set of dungeon symbols for the free monthly content and your pleasure. Take a seat on one of these symbols to feel like royalty, but beware, the throne might crumble beneath you and dump you unceremoniously on the floor! The April symbol pack “Royal Seating” contains 20 new symbols for the Dungeons of Schley style, and provides a range of sumptuous thrones to seat that royalty – or show its decline and fall with the destroyed versions.
